PROSPECTIVE TRANSFER STUDENT?

Attend GMU’s next “Transfer Tuesday” on May 28th at 10:30 am.
Prospective transfer student information sessions and campus tours are offered throughout the year for individuals interested in applying to Mason. Your visit will start with a campus tour lead by a member of our student volunteer group, the Mason Ambassadors, lasting about one hour. Then you are invited to join in the transfer information session with the Assistant Director of Admissions. The tour and information session together generally last about 2 hours.

Please plan to check-in for your visit 10-15 minutes before the session begins in the Office of Admissions, located in room 213 of the George W. Johnson Center. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, our office will make every attempt to accommodate your needs; however, we cannot guarantee accommodations. Self-guided tour packets are always available in the Office of Admissions.

Please use the links below to select your desired date to schedule your visit to campus. You may schedule a tour up to three weeks in advance.

Please note: These information sessions and tours are for prospective students going through the college search, application, and decision-making process. If you have already submitted your enrollment deposit and need to attend Orientation; please visit http://orientation.gmu.edu/.

Registration for summer is ongoing with the last day to add/drop for Session A being May 24. Payments are due on May 20 for registrations made through May 19. Decide on a major while receiving credit! Register for UNIV 200 in fall, 2013.

If you haven’t declared or selected your major, UNIV200: Decide/Confirm Major course will help you meet your goal.

Based on consistent feedback we’ve received from students who’ve completed the UNIV 200 course, 98% of students reported they had either significantly narrowed their choices or had made a final decision on their major.

Do not wait until the first week of class to register! Four sections are available for fall 2013:

· Monday, 10:30 a.m. – 12:20 p.m. This is a hybrid section with online coursework and in-class meetings every other week

· Monday, 5 p.m. – 6:50 p.m.

· Tuesday, 5 p.m. – 6:50 p.m.

· Wednesday, 1 p.m. – 2:50 p.m.

Undecided in a major? Attend the “Choosing a Major” workshop!

University Career Services will be offering a “Choosing a Major” workshop next week, on Tuesday, April 9, 5:00 PM – 6:15 PM, SUB I, Room 3400. This workshop, which is designed for undeclared students, can help them to discover strategies and resources which are available to assist in the major selection process.

Brydin Banning is named the Academic Advisor of the Year for 2013

The Academic Advising & Transfer Center is proud to announce that Brydin Banning, from the School of Conflict Analysis and Resolution, has been named the 2013 Academic Advisor of the Year. Janette Muir, Associate Provost of Undergraduate Education, presented Brydin with this award and plaque at the Academic Advising Roundtable Luncheon on Friday, March 29, 2013.

Brydin Banning has served as an academic advisor since March 2011. Prior to serving as the Director of Undergraduate Student Services for the School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution, she worked in Mason’s Admissions office as admissions counselor, recruiting students from around the country to attend her alma mater. After several years of traveling, Brydin sought a position that would provide her an opportunity to develop relationships with students at Mason, and her current position with S-CAR has allowed her to do just that. Her goal is to be a knowledgeable, supportive adult connection to the university for each student she advises. She enjoys watching her students’ interests and talents develop and is invested in their successes. Brydin is honored to be recognized for her service to the university and is thrilled to continue the tradition of advising excellence in the department.

The Academic Advising and Transfer Center would like to welcome the new freshmen class of 2016!

To start off your Mason college career on the right foot, we have a few pointers:

First, keep in mind the many opportunities that are available at Mason! To make the most of your college experience it’s best to get involved. A good start would be to check out the Welcome Week calendar. Here you can find anything from a how to choose a major workshop to a friendly game of dodgeball!

Second, consider adding UNIV 100 to your schedule! The main objective of University 100 is to assist first year students with their transition to Mason through the development of a relationship with others in the class including the instructor and peer advisor, the establishment of a knowledge base of campus resources, and the acquisition of basic academic skills for success.

Third, see your advisor and make it a habit at least once a semester! Advisors are here to assist you in course selection, navigating Patriot Web, exploring major options, learning about additional academic opportunities and much more.

Fourth, work just outside of your comfort zone. This is the zone for growth! You will never know if you like something or are good at it if you don’t push yourself to at least try. If you do this and you work hard, you will not only be a successful student, you will have grown by leaps and bounds in your four years at Mason!
