Holistic Intervention Programming to Help Students Return to Success
Presenter: Amanda Ganus, Senior Academic Advisor, Costello College of Business
One of the biggest challenges we face as academic advisors is figuring out how to help students who are struggling academically. Over nearly a decade, the College of Business has formed a robust intervention program that we call Return to Success (RTS). This tiered program provides increasing levels of support to identify and overcome barriers to success from Warning through return from Second Suspension. This session will explore how the RTS program has been built to serve students in the College of Business, some of our plans for the future, and some actionable steps to develop an intervention program that works for students and programs across campus.

Longevity Advising: Connecting All the Dots from Point A to Point B
Presenter: Jordan Emely, Academic Advisor and Communications Coordinator, Carter School
This session will explore longevity advising—a proactive approach used at the Carter School to support students throughout their time at George Mason by building intentional advising points in the natural student lifecycle rather than relying solely on students to seek help when they need it. We’ll discuss practical ways to track and use the student data you can collect to support retention and recruitment, identify patterns in student needs, create tailored events and outreach, and develop advising practices that keep students connected from their first semester through graduation. This session addresses the bigger question of: How can we use the information we have about our students to build a more intentional, proactive, and lasting advising experience?
